Reverse osmosis (RO) is a membrane-technology filtration method that removes many types of large molecules and ions from solutions by applying pressure to the solution when it is on one side of a selective membrane. The result is that the solute is retained on the pressurized side of the membrane and the pure solvent is allowed to pass to the other side.
2. Stages of Filtration:
1). Sediment Stage: Removes rough particles, sand and rust.
2). Quartz sand stage: Lower the turbidity of feed water (NTU)and sludge density index (SDI) values
3). Carbon stage: Removes chlorine and chemicals which would otherwise damage the membrane.
4). Resin stage: Purolite ion-exchange.
5). Reverse osmosis stage: Removes dissolved solids and all that are bigger than water molecule.
6. )Final Carbon stage: To improve the taste
7). Ozone sterilization: To kill microorganisms.
8). Storage tank
9. )UV sterilization: To kill microorganisms.
